Rick McCartney
Rick McCartney has been publishing in Phoenix for the past
fourteen years. He is President and CEO of InMedia, formerly Media
Publisher Group, and is currently responsible for producing many
local and regional publications including Phoenix Metropolitan,
the You Are Here city guides, Impact Magazine, Scottsdale@Work
Magazine and the Phoenix Film Foundation magazines. His next major
project is the October 2010 launch of Arizona Magazine Monthly, an
editorial‐driven subscription Rick’s first publishing venture was the affluent lifestyle magazine, Arizona Corridors Magazine which quickly became a local success. His high editorial standards and creative design background brought Arizona Corridors to a level of success unseen in the Arizona market at the time. Upon the sale of Arizona Corridors Magazine, McCartney worked as Custom Publishing Group Manager at the Gannett owned Arizona Republic where he managed multiple publication titles including AZ Style, New Homes Arizona, The Heart of the Community and various ongoing special sections to the daily newspaper. McCartney initially attended film school at New York University, where he began producing motion pictures at the age of nineteen. His first film took him to the Cannes Film Festival in 1989. McCartney transferred to Fordham University in New York City to become involved in the Pre‐Law Program with thoughts of attending law school. However, the business of film was to be his career path and McCartney promptly graduated from Fordham University and took a position as a segment producer with Entertainment Tonight in New York.
In 1990, McCartney returned to Los Angeles where he grew up, to
join the highly respected William Morris Agency. After a two‐year
stint with William Morris, McCartney then joined Hollywood
Pictures, a motion picture arm of the Walt Disney Company, where
he worked to develop feature films for the newly formed studio and
was a student of the well‐known management style of Jeffrey
Katzenberg and Michael Eisner. Known for his business acumen and
responding to his entrepreneurial spirit, McCartney began
Milestone Pictures Entertainment, working closely with writers,
directors and A move to Phoenix, Arizona in 1996 led McCartney down the path of publishing and digital media. Having worked initially as an advertising executive in Phoenix, McCartney was intrigued by the publishing and media element of advertising as he noted the similarities to screenplay development through the necessary appeal the two industries must accomplish for a wide audience. McCartney was recognized as one of “Arizona’s Finest” by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1999, won the Impact Award for “Community Involvement for Inmedia in May 2010 and is active with a number of non‐profit organizations to improve both the business community and neighborhoods throughout Arizona. He is a founding Board Member of The Arizona Chapter of Sentinels of Freedom, a national scholarship program created to benefit qualified members of the U.S. Armed Forces severely injured in the line of duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001. The program helps them readjust to civilian life and prosper in their hometowns or new communities.
Working with various children’s charities, he is dedicated to
supporting children’s health and educational causes. A member of
the Board of the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, McCartney is
dedicated to providing under‐privileged children with
opportunities not previously available to them. As an Executive
Board Director of the Phoenix Film Foundation, he works reverently
to build awareness of the many educational arts programs to
school‐aged children. McCartney is chairman‐elect of the Maricopa
Workforce Connections Board where he works to create job
opportunities for both the disadvantaged and unemployed. He also
serves on the Small Business Leadership Council of the Greater
Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Advisory
Council for the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce. McCartney is
a member of the Professional Leadership Council for Big Brothers
Big Sisters of Central Arizona.
