Carol A. Poore is president and CEO of
Phoenix-based Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS (formerly Body Positive), the
leading nonprofit HIV/AIDS research, clinical trial and education resource
center in the Southwest. As president and CEO of Southwest Center for
HIV/AIDS, Poore leads the organization’s staff of clinical trial and
naturopathic medical doctors, researchers, educators, and a community
outreach team including more than 300 volunteers. Her skills in strategic
planning, outreach, organizational management and fund raising enable her
to grow the organization and help the agency partner with the region’s
biomedical research and community-based organizations.
From 2002 to 2007, Poore served as vice provost of public affairs at
Arizona State University’s West campus, overseeing a department
responsible for constituent and public relations, donor and fundraising
development, marketing, student recruitment, special events and alumni
relations. As a senior administrator for the nation’s largest public
university, she provided leadership for four colleges and a campus that
doubled in size, growing from 4,500 to more than 9,000 students during her
tenure. She led an internal branding team project leading to articulation
of ASU’s brand essence and a consistent marketing approach throughout the
university’s more than 30 colleges and four campuses.
From 1997 to 2002, Poore served as director of communication for New West
Energy, a separate affiliate of Salt River Project (SRP), the nation's
third-largest public power electric and water utility based in Phoenix,
Ariz. A member of the three-person business launch team, Poore developed
the marketing and communication strategies for New West Energy’s
historical start-up leading to $500 million in sales within the first
three years. During her 15-year tenure at SRP, she served appointments as
senior strategic planning analyst, executive speechwriter, and in a
variety of corporate communication and public affairs positions.
Poore’s community leadership includes serving on the Greater Phoenix
Chamber of Commerce Athena Powerlink Governing Board, the Dean’s Advisory
Council for ASU’s School of Global Management and Leadership, Arrowhead
Community Bank Board of Directors, and the Fiesta Bowl Committee. She
served on the board of trustees of the International Association of
Business Communicators’ Research Foundation, and is a past Valley
Leadership board president. Poore earned her master’s degree in business
(MBA) from Arizona State University as a member of the Executive MBA
Program, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production,
Broadcasting and Journalism from ASU. She currently is completing her
Ph.D. in Public Administration at ASU. Her book, “Building Your Career
Portfolio,” was published in 2001 by The Career Press and is available in
English, Korean and German languages worldwide.
