Ilana Lowery, 43, was named editor of The Business Journal in August 2001. She had been managing editor of the paper since 1999. Lowery joined the publication as a reporter and projects editor in 1995. As a reporter she covered banking and finance, travel, aviation, tourism and sports business. In 1997, she was named associate editor and was responsible for the newspaper’s day-to-day operations, as well as its special sections and monthly magazines. Prior to The Business Journal, Lowery was an editor for Independent Newspapers Inc., a community newspaper chain based in Scottsdale. While there, from 1989 to 1995, she oversaw the publication of three newspapers each week and a variety of special magazines and publications.
Before moving to the
Valley in 1989, Lowery served as a reporter and zone editor for Pulitzer
Newspapers in Chicago. From 1986-1988, she was a scriptwriter and
associate producer for the NBC-TV news affiliate in Chicago.
