Arizona slips to 12th
in CNBC poll of top
states for business
Arizona came in 12th in CNBC's ranking of America's Top States for
Doing Business-2008, down from last year's 10th place finish.
Texas was No. 1. Rounding out the top five were Virginia, Utah,
Idaho and Colorado.
To create the list, CNBC scored the 50 states in categories from
education to economy and transportation to cost of living.
According to CNBC, Texas' "large population, abundance of natural
resources, and diverse population and geography have created a
dynamic economy." Texas' booming energy industry in a time of
record oil prices, however, is the main reason the state rose to
the top this year, the network said.
Arizona scored highest - at No. 6 - in business friendliness and
work force categories. The state also came if fairly high - eighth
- for its economy, and marked its worst score in education, coming
in 43rd among states.
