2009 Tribute to Women!

For the past 15 years, the YWCA Maricopa County has hosted the YWCA Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of ten (10) distinguished women who strive daily to improve the lives of women and girls through their leadership, advocacy, and community service while achieving success in their career fields. These women have fully embraced the YWCA’s mission of eliminating discrimination and empowering women.

We invite you to nominate a woman to receive one of the prestigious awards that will be presented at the next YWCA Tribute to Women Luncheon in February 2009. Tribute to Women is the primary fundraiser for the YWCA of Maricopa County; proceeds from this event will touch a life, extend a hand, fill a heart, and provide services that foster hope.

Nominations are available online at www.ywcaaz.org or call (602) 258-0990 and an application can be emailed to you. Please complete the application and return it to the YWCA Maricopa County by Friday, September 12, 2008 by 5:00 p.m. Late nominations will not be accepted.

GABRIEL’S ANGELS TO HOST ANNUAL “PETS HELPING KIDS” FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST TO BENEFIT ABUSED AND AT-RISK CHILDREN

Gabriel’s Angels, an organization whose mission is to deliver healing pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children, nurturing their ability to love and trust; thereby freeing them from the cycle of violence, is excited to announce this year’s Pets Helping Kids fundraising and awareness event will be a breakfast held on Fri. May 16, 2008 at the Westin Kierland Resort, Trailblazers Terrace.

Gabriel’s Angels hosts the annual event as a means to generate awareness about the organization and its mission as well as generate capital to facilitate its programs and show appreciation for those committed to helping our community. Through testimonials, stories and a vivid video presentation, attendees will get a clear picture of the work Gabriel’s Angels does in the community. Community leaders and Gabriel’s Angels volunteers will educate and inspire guests to get involved.

“Through this event we hope to build lifelong relationships with active and community oriented individuals interested in helping Gabriel’s Angels with its mission to help abused and neglected children,” says Pam Gaber, president and founder. “There are so many generous people in our community and this is a time for us to cultivate new relationships, by creating awareness about our organization.”

The breakfast is FREE to those that wish to attend, and the program is structured to last exactly one hour. The breakfast is open to anyone that would like to learn more about Gabriel’s Angels, friends of the organization or those that want to support the organization financially or through volunteering. The breakfast will be held Fri., May 16, 2008 at 7:30 am at the Westin Kierland Resort, Trailblazers Terrace.

For more information about Gabriel’s Angels, the “Pets Helping Kids Fundraising Breakfast,” becoming a volunteer or pet therapy team please call 480.460.5333 or visit www.gabrielsangels.org.

Reading List

Quitters Can Win:

Avoiding the Pitfalls of 'The Dip'

Seth Godin, best-selling author of books and a popular marketing blog, discusses a sticky topic in his small but power-packed "The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick)." The saying "Winners never quit and quitters never win" is a fallacy, according to Godin. In fact, there are times when quitting is the smartest tactic you can employ, as long as your long-term goal remains foremost in your mind.

Stickiness Is Powerful:

Making Your Message Count

Books touting ways to improve business communication skills command acres of shelf space in local bookstores, mostly in the Bargain Bin section. They're literally "a dime a dozen." Then there are the true classics that take pride of place in front of the store, year after year. "Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die" is destined to be one of the latter. Chip and Dan Heath have taken an old topic which has vexed generations of communicators and given it new energy and ease of application.
